Exporting Business of the Year


This award was introduced in 2017 and is open to any business who is exporting a product or service, or is planning to export within the next six months.




Entrants must be engaged in the business of exporting their products or services.

Whilst the Award is made to a business entity, a woman must be the driving force behind the business.

If you won the Exporting Business of the Year Award last year, then you are not eligible to enter this category, this year.​​

Entry is free for affiliate members and ASB direct members, and costs £50 per entry for non-members.

Application process

The application should be submitted via the ASB website (see Awards Home Page for full application process).

Applicants will be asked to provide historical and forecast financial figures (in strict confidence) in support of their application. 

Applications should be accompanied by two endorsements/references.

Criteria assessed (500 words max per criterion.)

  • What has the business done to create an export market and how has it taken the idea forward?
  • Provide examples of where the business has developed a new product or service for the export market
  • How has the business utilised technology to help grow the business abroad?
  • Provide examples of best practice that the business could share with other businesses to help them develop a global market
  • Demonstrate how the exporting initiative has grown market share and profit margin
  • Has exporting created any new jobs in Scotland or internationally?

  • Closing date for entries is 5pm on Friday 28th June, 2019
  • Only online applications will be accepted.
  • Applicants are requested to upload a photo (individual or team) appropriate to the award applied for. This will only be used if selected as a finalist.
  • The shortlisted finalists will be asked to attend an interview with the judging panel, Haymarket, Edinburgh, during the w/c Monday 22nd July, 2019.
  • Finalists are required to attend the Awards Dinner on Saturday 14th September, National Museum of Scotland, Edinburgh.
