Margaret Kennedy - Women of Inspiration 2016

As Regional Director for Business Banking in Scotland for Royal Bank of Scotland, I am an experienced and prove Financial Services leader with experience in a variety of senior banking roles.

What is your background prior to working for this company/setting up your company?

I gained Fellowship status of the Chartered Institute of Bankers in 2015 and my career of over 30 years with RBS has spanned a variety of banking roles where I have gathered significant experience, including within the Branch Network, Specialist Sectors and Business Banking, progressing to a Senior Management position in 2006. I am recognised as a keynote speaker and panel Moderator for Diversity Agenda in Scotland and for supporting Entrepreneurship nurturing Enterprise Growth. This includes leading the Women in Business Ambassador Network within RBS Scotland and is also  a qualified Business Mentor.

I am also proud to be a Semi finalist Judge of extremely successful Scottish EDGE Fund, in collaboration with Scottish Govt and key stakeholders supporting Scottish Economic Growth. With responsibility for 120 members of staff, supporting SME's, ranging from Start-Up Businesses to established businesses, my key priority for her team is to ensure they serve their customers well and share their clients ambitions. I am well recognised for delivery of outstanding business results, building team engagement, focussing on business and team diversity and is well known for the instrumental support of the Women in Business Network throughout Scotland

One of the highlights includes collaboration with Women’s Enterprise Scotland and Scottish Government by contributing  to and supporting the implementation of the  Framework and Action Plan for Women’s Enterprise in Scotland adopted and launched by current Scottish Government.

What makes your company and/or your role stand out?

As a founder member of the Women in Business programme within RBS, which was set up specifically to support Women -led  and Women Owned  SME Businesses, I am very proud to have seen this support develop to 20 fully Accredited  Women in business Ambassadors in  Royal Bank of Scotland . Our Women in Business Ambassadors  host networking events, facilitate introductions to RBS partners and stakeholders  and encourage women to come together in Entrepreneurship . A collaborative approach is necessary for Scottish women to prosper in Business therefore linking in with Mentors, Ambassadors and Role Models  provides support through an Ecosystem  that facilitates the confidence and belief required for success. 

What is your area of expertise / inspiration?

 I am delighted to have been awarded Fellowship of the Chartered Institute of Bankers in 2015 and by encouraging, supporting  others by giving them confidence and courage to be "the best they can be"  is what inspires me. 

What are your plans for the future?

Developing and encouraging more female Role Models in to Senior positions within the Scotland   

What motivates you?

I am motivated by supporting the success of others though  coaching , mentoring and making introductions to networks that can support their Business or Career. Feeling I have added value .
