Established in 2004 by producer and proud advocate of women’s rights, Noe Mendelle, Scottish Documentary Institute nurtures and internationalises the ambitions of Scotland's documentary filmmaking talent. Based in Edinburgh, SDI has supported more than 600 documentary filmmakers and screened their films in over sixty countries, garnering international recognition as being at the cutting edge of the documentary sector. Bridging art and industry, SDI is committed to supporting authored films driven by content and emotional experience. We have an international outlook and a global following and we are proud to call Scotland our home.
In November 2019 the Scottish Documentary Institute will launch its campaign to address the barriers affecting Scotland’s female documentary filmmakers. By 2025 (the 50th anniversary of the Sex Discrimination Act), we want to see 50% of Scotland’s documentaries made by women. Help from Scotland's community of business women will make a huge difference - and there are lots of ways you can help. Join us to make change happen!
