On the 28th November I represented ASB at the first Women in Enterprise Action Group meeting chaired by Jamie Hepburn MSP, Minister for Employability and Training. The group’s remit is to deliver on the commitments made in the Enterprise and Skills Review: “Realise untapped economic potential by tackling the gender gap across start-ups and growth companies, with action to deliver a sustainable model that collaboratively develops and monitors future gender-aware and gender-specific policies and interventions”. Participants were asked to outline on-going activities tackling the gender gap; explore the current support landscape for women in enterprise; and focus on actions for the ‘way ahead’.

Last week I was privileged to attend the Scottish Chambers of Commerce (SCC) Annual Business Address. Keynote speakers included First Minister of Scotland, Nicola Sturgeon, President of the Scottish Chamber of Commerce, Tim Allan, and event sponsor George Schindler, President and CEO of world-leading technology business CGI. We look forward to collaborating with SCC next year and in particular on the Women’s Business Mentoring programme.

I was also delighted to join Perthshire Businesswomen’s Club as they celebrated their 20th Anniversary at Graysons Wine Bar last Tuesday. Past PBN Chair and former ASB President Anne Bunting, and current PBN Chair Jane Rennie, gave short speeches and cut the birthday cake. The club also took the opportunity to reveal their new logo!

As 2017 draws to a close, the ASB committee are reflecting on a successful year and already making plans for 2018! Please add Saturday 24th March to your diary and plan ahead to join us for our Wellbeing event in Aviemore. This will be a great opportunity to take time out of your busy schedule and make an investment in yourself for the coming year! Further details below.

All that remains is for me to wish you a very happy Christmas and a prosperous new year!

President, ASB

Women of Inspiration Awards 2018

Each year the Association of Scottish Businesswomen honours and celebrates the achievement and contribution of inspirational women in business and the wider community through their Women of Inspiration Awards.

We would like to invite you to nominate any woman in Scotland who you feel is deserving of the award; whether they are an inspiration to others, role models or leaders in their professions; women who have excelled in their careers or who have encouraged others, or impacted lives in the wider community.

To make a nomination, simply send an email to, with a short outline (no more than 200 words) of what they do or did that inspires you, by 31st January 2018.

Please ensure to include the full name and contact email of the person you are nominating! ASB may ask for a supporting letter or reference to verify the nomination.

Successful nominees will be invited to a reception on, or around, International Women’s Day, to be presented with a certificate.

We are delighted to have the support of Virgin Money in sponsoring this event.
