I'm Emma Printie-James, an architect and partner at Printie James Architecture in Cawdor, which I established in 2015 with my husband, Brian.
A little more detail about me. Originally from Edinburgh, I graduated with First Class Honours in Interior Architecture from Napier University before completing a Postgraduate Diploma in Architecture with Distinction at Edinburgh College of Art. After working in an Edinburgh practice, my family and I relocated to Inverness. I joined LDN Architects qualifying as an architect in 2011, having completed my Part 3 examination.
During my time at LDN Architects, I gained valuable experience across a range of projects, including leading the design of a new production facility for Walkers Shortbread and working as project architect on a five-bedroom family home near Drumbeg. It was through projects like these that I discovered how much I enjoy working with clients, understanding their needs and guiding them through every stage of the design process.
After the arrival of my first child, I decided to establish my own practice. This gave me the flexibility to balance family life with my career, while allowing me to focus on the projects I feel most passionate about.
At PJA, we work closely with our clients, listening to their ideas, needs and aspirations to create thoughtful, considered solutions. Whether designing a new-build home or extending an existing property, we aim to create spaces that work for the people who live in them.
We are particularly interested in helping clients explore sustainable ways of building. Brian is a Certified Passive House Consultant. We are keen to work with clients wanting to learn more about creating high-performance, ultra-low-energy homes that offer comfort, efficiency and a better way of living.
Away from practice, I'm Mum to two amazing children and enjoy baking, cooking and growing my own vegetables.
